We have just received 25 latitude 3310 two-in-one laptops which have dual array microphones unlike all the old laptops that have a single digital microphone, we have determined that if you go into advanced setup under sound presences and then input switches and change it to internal mic 1 it will work for a few seconds until it reverts back to internal mic.
Also found out with version 20 of Ubuntu the microphone does not work
we have also attempted to change the system preferences -> options-> default sound input (Microphone) and device name seen inside Also Mixer)
Hi, I don‘t know this piece of HW exactly but had to deal sometimes with Dual array Mics:
what gives:
arecord -l
In some cases, you can set the main Mjc in Bios, is it available there maybe?
I’ll look tomorrow, that’s for getting back so quickly , when do you sleep lol
the only options within the BIOS are to disable or enable the microphone
I searched a bit around, but didn’t found something useful beside that article which covers a couple of ideas: bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/1840725
Do you see a chance to test a few ideas they posted? I will continue searching though!
@member we have determined that after searching around on the internet dual array microphones have been an issues with the current linux kernal since 2016 and still happening. i did happen to come across some interesting information last night while digging around in terminal on ubunut and the Igel Device

im gussing that 0x12 is the microphone i need to have as the default and have 0x13 blacklisted
will have a look later on, I’m checking a few things already.
could you provide the output of:
cat /proc/asound/modules
I spoke with Dell this morning they stated that dual microphones are the new standard and everything will come with that from this point forward so I am going to be ordering a mini USB dongle that will plug into the side of the laptop until I GEL is able to support the dual microphones
hmm, maybe that is why we have had some audio issues with some of our dell’s. They do have two mics. We have just used external headsets to get around it, but that is possibly our issue.
@member – currently dual mics are not supported in the linux kernal for either ubunutu or igel, i have reasearched this being an issue all the way back to 2014
We have determined that the USB dongle functions with the Igel OS, so this is the solution until a longer term dual array microphone fix is created
