As far as I know yes. But you can set your UMS as Update Proxy, so your clients download the applications from your UMS server instead.

Which Universal Management Suite version? Are you having a proxy in between?
Did you restart the device after enabling the UMS update Proxy? It might need a reboot until the option is used on the device because it is not a chance in any profile it might not get automatic transferred to the device.
