How do I change a device to a static IP address? Do I just change it in the existing device configuration, or do I need to create a special profile for each device/static ip? What is the preferred IGEL way to do it?
Currently the device is live with a DHCP.

But why static IPs?
a mapping file of hostnames to static IPs could be created and then used in a profile / script to do the work.
Here is an example of a profile that maps printers.
Something similar could be created for setting static IPs.
If you really need/want fixed IPs, I‘d recommend to use DHCP reservations
