Windows 7 VDI and the mouse pointer on a black Putty window is black which is really annoying on IGEL OS? How to fix?

We use Windows 7 VDI and the mouse pointer on a black Putty window is black which is really annoying – I know I can change Putty settings, but I don’t need to when RDP’d into the same VDI desktop from a Windows PC instead of an IGEL as the mouse pointer goes white – any ideas?

Hey @member your looking at just changing the mouse pointer colour in your VDI session?

Yeah but why is only the ‘I’ bar when using Putty black when on an IGEL but white when on a Windows RDP client? All other times the mouse pointer is fine.

accessing Putty via a Connection off the IGEL OS?

Putty is running inside the RDP session to a Windows 7 VDI desktop

We actually had something similar happen a while ago. IGEL > XenDesktop. When opening a XenApp session, the cursor would go white (basically turn invisible) when navigating to text fields. Only happened when accessing the XD on IGEL. Never found a resolution.

We have a similar issue, but it isn’t with IGEL Devices. We have it with Citrix Apps from Windows 10 PCs.

Seems to be a general Putty/Mouse cursor related issue, plenty of articles online for this one.

Found this one which might help as a workaround:

” The I-beam mouse pointer that PuTTY uses is not rendered the same in rdesktop as it is in the Windows Remote Desktop client. The workaround is to change the “Text Select” pointer on the Windows machine by going to Control Panel->Mouse->Pointers.”

Ah well done – I’ve changed to beam_r.cur and that works fine!
