Static Template Keys – trying to use the HOSTNAME template key to pass as the username for VMware Horizon

Hello everybody… can anybody help me with using the Static Template Keys? Specifically I’m trying to use the HOSTNAME template key to pass as the username for a Horizon session. When I go into the Choose Template Key I can see the HOSTNAME Static Key but if I double click it it doesn’t show up in the box. I’ve tried manually adding it with ${HOSTNAME} but that doesn’t seem to work either… what am I missing here? Thanks!

Hello Nathan, just to get you right, you defined a Template key called HOSTNAME, you define a Template key Value let‘s say: ValueHostname. Right?

Then you are trying to assign the profile where Vmware View Login Username is: $HOSTNAME, then you assigned the Value ValueHostname, right?

Or did you thought that the actual network Hostname was passed through as Username?

Then:

copy this to a new profile, System,Firmware Customization,Custom commands,Network,Final network command:

setparam sessions.vdm_client0.options.username $(cat /etc/hostname)

killwait_postsetupd

write_rmsettings

The second item is what I was trying to achieve – though clearly going the wrong way about it! Thanks!

Happy to help! Keep my fingers crossed!
