Hello,
we use different Igel (UD2, UD3), they are managed with UMS 5.09.120. Unfortunately, Windows Server 2012 has the awkward feature of constantly changing the default printer. If a user changes the default printer, this change applies to all other users as well.
Now it occurred to me that the printers should not be installed on the terminal server, but on the file server. And then assign the appropriate printer to the individual thin clients via a setting in the UMS. That way, users would only be able to see and use a single printer. Is this possible and how can I implement this in the UMS?
Hallo,
Are they locally attached printers or network printers?
Default printers are usually a “user-setting” on Windows Server 2012, so changing the default printer for one user does not affect the whole server. Are there any settings/GPOs configured which would force the server to use one default printer for all users?
What are you using for profile management? Kind of thinking along the lines of what @member was thinking.
Are you using XenApp or RDS?
@member the print drivers needs to be installed on the terminal servers (or you can give users permissions to install drivers automatically) . when this is taken care of you can use a few different methods for assigning printers to the users/sessions, but one alternative is CUPS in IGEL OS kb.igel.com/igelos-10.05.500/en/mapping-local-printer-to-citrix-or-rdp-sessions-8620824.html
If you use universal print server it’s not necessary to install the drivers on the Xenapp server. Print functions are limited but for most users enough as they just want to print
